FAQs
-
Yes. Home visits remain available on request where clinically appropriate and subject to availability.
Harrogate Private GP now offers face-to-face appointments from our clinic at Winters Barn, near Follifoot. Our clinic allows us to provide care in a calm, professional setting with access to appropriate equipment, examination facilities and investigations.
Home visits may still be suitable where it is difficult for a patient to attend the clinic, where a home assessment is clinically more appropriate, or where this has been agreed as part of their care.
Please contact us to discuss whether a clinic appointment or home visit would be most appropriate for your needs.
-
Yes. You should remain registered with your usual NHS GP.
This ensures you continue to receive NHS services such as screening programmes, routine reviews, immunisations and access to your NHS medical record.
You can choose to have part of your care with a private GP where this is appropriate. Harrogate Private GP can support you with appointments, health concerns, medication reviews, investigations, referrals and ongoing advice, while your NHS GP remains responsible for your NHS-registered care.
With your consent, we can share relevant information with your NHS GP where appropriate. This helps support safe, joined-up care and reduces the risk of important information being missed.
One of our aims is to complement, rather than duplicate or complicate, your NHS care. Where possible, we will manage matters directly within our service and avoid creating unnecessary additional work for your NHS GP practice.
-
Yes. Where clinically appropriate, Harrogate Private GP can arrange blood tests and some other investigations.
We follow national clinical guidance when advising on tests and investigations. Your GP will discuss your symptoms or concerns, explain which tests may be useful, and agree an appropriate plan with you.
Blood tests and some investigations are arranged privately and may incur an additional fee. We will explain any relevant costs before arranging them wherever possible.
We cannot arrange tests or investigations without an appointment first, as we need to assess your individual health needs and make sure any testing is appropriate and safely followed up.
If you request a test that is not routinely recommended or is not clearly indicated, your GP will discuss this with you. In some circumstances, private testing may still be possible, but this will depend on clinical judgement, safety and the purpose of the test.
If further assessment is needed, we can arrange referral to NHS services or private specialists where appropriate.
-
Yes. If an NHS referral is clinically appropriate, Harrogate Private GP can refer directly into NHS services, including Harrogate Hospital, where the referral would also have been indicated had you seen an NHS GP.
We can also arrange private referrals where appropriate. This may be suitable if you would prefer to be seen privately, would like a greater choice of specialist, or wish to be seen more quickly where private availability allows.
Your GP will discuss the most appropriate referral route with you during your appointment. In some cases, an NHS referral may not be appropriate, or a private referral may be a better option depending on the clinical circumstances and your preferences.
With your consent, we can also share relevant information with your NHS GP so that your care remains joined up and your usual GP practice is aware of important referrals, investigations or treatment plans.
